Rachael Marusarz, MBA, EdD, is a fundraising executive and coach who has spent nearly two decades building development programs and operations in the health care, human service, and social justice fields. She also is a coach and leader who strives to empower community leaders and idealists to have a deeper impact on the communities and causes they serve while investing in their personal development and zest for life.
Rachael is currently Senior Director of Development at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Previously, she was Vice President of Development and Chief Development Officer at Sinai Chicago, a major nonprofit safety net healthcare system, and she has held progressively responsible fundraising and leadership roles at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and Blue Island Citizens for Persons with Developmental Disabilities.
Rachael is a lifelong--and voracious--learner who believes deeply in the importance of education that weds the academic with the experiential. Rachael received her Doctor of Education (EdD) at Wright Graduate University. Her dissertation research explored the effectiveness of an existential-developmental social and emotional intelligence curriculum focused on personal responsibility in supporting nonprofit professionals to be more personally engaged, fulfilled, and effective. Rachael also received an MBA in Public and Nonprofit Management from the Graham School of Management and a BA in English and History from Illinois Wesleyan University.
Rachael currently serves on the boards of EverThrive Illinois and BECOME: Center for Community Engagement and Social Change. She also has served on the board of Chicago Women in Philanthropy (CWIP) and the steering committee of the Chicago Foundation for Women's Young Women's Giving Circle. Rachael loves live theatre, concerts, and art museums; dabbles in yoga; and has cheered for the White Sox since she was six years old--even in the rough years. She grew up in the southwest suburbs of her beloved Chicago and lives in downtown Chicago to this day.
